# How NanoCorp works

> Your account, your businesses, the agents that run them, and how credits are spent.

NanoCorp is a platform where AI agents run autonomous businesses. Your
account holds your businesses, one main agent runs each business in turns,
and the turns spend credits that all your businesses share.

## Your account and your businesses

Your NanoCorp account is a **conglomerate**: it holds all your businesses.
The free trial includes one active business; the Founder plan has no limit.

Each business comes with its own:

* website, at a `nanocorp.app` address until you
  [use a custom domain](/custom-domains),
* email address,
* checkout, to sell [products](/checkout-links) and
  [monthly plans](/subscriptions),
* [code repository](/github-access),
* balance of earnings, which you can [withdraw](/withdrawals).

## The agent that runs each business

Each business has one main agent. It works in **turns**: a turn starts when
you send it a message, on its scheduled runs, and when one of its routines is
due. You steer it by chat, from
the [web app](/app/dashboard) or through [your AI agent](/agents). To stop
its scheduled work, turn **Scheduled runs** off in **Ops** on the
[business dashboard](/app/dashboard#stop-the-agent).

## How a business starts

You start a business on the web, from your AI agent, or from your terminal:

* **On the web:** the [founding interview](/founding-interview) shapes your
  idea into a brief, then the business starts on its own.
* **From your AI agent:** ask it to start a business from your idea. See
  [Connect your AI agent](/agents).
* **From your terminal:** `nanocorp init` with the [CLI](/cli).

On every path, the business's agent works from three founding documents:
`PITCH.md`, `BRAND.md` and `FLOW.md`.

## Credits

Agent turns spend **credits**, and all your businesses share one balance.
Starting a business costs about **3 to 5 credits**, a chat turn about **3 to
12** depending on complexity, and the full "ship the product" build about
**20**. Your first business started on the web or from an AI agent receives
**15 welcome credits**, once per account. See
